ActiveCampaign allows you to send emails, SMS messages, personalized messages to website visitors, and even manage how Facebook ads are displayed to people on your list. 

You want to lean heavily into marketing automation:

ActiveCampaign is without doubt one of the most powerful automation tools. You can set up virtually any automation you wish.

You need an integrated sales and marketing platform:

ActiveCampaign has an inbuilt CRM, which seamlessly links up to all your email marketing data. Meaning sales teams can act quickly. There are features such as lead scoring and social data which can also help to streamline your sales follow-up processes.

We wouldn’t recommended ActiveCampaign if:

You only need simple automations:

If you only plan to use basic automations, such as delivering a welcome sequence to new subscribers, then ActiveCampaign probably won’t be right for you. You will be paying for a Lamborghini when a Toyota would be a better fit.

Conditional Content – Conditional Content means you’re able to dynamically alter content on a per contact basis. So you can display entirely different images or blocks of text in an email based on how a contact has been tagged or which web pages they have viewed on your website. Mind blown! For example, if you’re sending out an email about a sale, you can use Conditional content to show the specific product they have viewed on your site. Amazing, huh?! 

Integrations – ActiveCampaign integrates with over 150 apps and services: accounting, CMS applications, analytics, sales, support, and lead generation.

Easy-to-use API – ActiveCampaign has a very easy to use API. There are so many native integrations, but the API means that even more tools can be integrated.

Event Tracking – You can see specific actions your subscribers have taken and then feed that information into highly personalized marketing. 

Site Tracking – This connects your marketing to a subscriber’s behavior. So you can respond to what they’re doing on your website and adapt your marketing to suit them. You can see each subscriber’s page history (the web pages on your site they have visited) in their record, which allows you to create person specific marketing.

Intuitive automation builder – ActiveCampaigns uses a drag-and-drop flowchart tool to create automations. This tool is intuitive and allows you to create powerful automations quickly and easily. 

Sales CRM – Their automation tools extend into CRM providing a seamless transition from marketing to sales. The automation tools can also be used to automate many sales tasks.

Advanced lead scoring – This means you can create unlimited lead scores with unlimited rules giving you a way  to prioritize your leads along any criteria which works for you. You can use the lead scores to begin automations or to automatically pass  a lead to your sales team when they reach a certain score.

Email split testing – ActiveCampaign offers advanced split testing. You can test different subject lines, sender information, and email body content so you can identify what your audience likes best. You pick how many subscribers should get each version of the test, then send the winning version to the rest of your list.

ActiveCampaign vs Convertkit. 

Convertkit is easy to use, and suitable for email marketing beginners and people who just need basic level automations. You can create landing pages or embeddable forms. Convertkit has a few benefits over ActiveCampaign:

Mailerlite doesn’t have the powerful automations that ActiveCampaign does. The choice of which tool suits you best, depends on your available budget and the automations you require.

ActiveCampaign vs GetResponse

GetResponse is a powerful alternative to ActiveCampaign with loads of pro options (such as a webinar tool). They have good automations and unlike ActiveCampaign, they offer their platform in more than 20 languages, and their design and testing tools are top notch. However, ActiveCampaign has more extensive features, better support and is more value for money.

Active Campaign vs SendinBlue

SendinBlue is one of the cheapest providers. Available in 6 different languages and have a great feature that lets you preview your campaigns in different email clients before you send them. If budget is an issue, then check out SendinBlue. It does, however, lack the features of ActiveCampaign.
