If you want a totally hassle-free tool and budget isn’t a concern, then WP Engine is a total no brainer choice. Maybe you’re a business owner or a blogger with a decent budget and you need to save time and focus on money-making tasks rather than maintaining your site. Then again WP Engine is a great choice for you. If you’re a site developer, then this solution will help save you time and helps you provide a great experience for your clients.
For anyone who has a limited budget, then you might find a cheaper solution would work fine for you right now and if that sounds like you then definitely check out BlueHost, Hostgator or Hostinger.
WP Engine Vs Competitors
WP Engine vs Bluehost
WP Engine focuses solely on managed WordPress hosting. While Bluehost offers a variety of hosting packages. Bluehost is great for solo bloggers, whereas WP Engine is the perfect choice for small business owners who value speed, reliability and security. Packages start from $29 per month and you will get awesome features like daily backups for free, unlimited data transfer etc.
If you’re budget is smaller, Bluehost is a good choice and their packages start at $2.95 per month.
WP Engine vs SiteGround
SiteGround provides 24/7 support via phone, email or live chat. WP Engine offers 24/7 support via live chat, but they only offer phone support with Growth or higher level plans.
WP Engine delivers faster loading times than SiteGround and if you pay annually SiteGround is significantly cheaper than WPEngine.
If you want to have multiple sites on one hosting package, then SiteGround's GoGeek plan would be a great choice. With WP Engine packages are just for one site.
In terms of usability WP Engine is more straightforward and for WordPress users their service is tailored to exactly what you need.
The uptime is reported to be the same for both hosts (hovering around 100%). However, WP engine has faster page loading speeds.
Price wise, if you take advantage of annual payment discounts, SiteGround’s GoGeek plan works out a lot cheaper than WP Engine.
On SiteGround’s GoGeek plan you can host multiple websites on different domains. Whereas the WP Engine Personal plan is just for one WordPress website plus a staging site.
WP Engine does offer a more straightforward user experience, than SiteGround.
Although SiteGround’s GoGeek plan’s annual payment discount is a great saving. If you value performance, simplicity, and want to use a service with one focus, then WP Engine's Personal plan is the better option. If you want telephone support and have multiple websites then SiteGround is the best option for you.
WP Engine vs Hostgator
As we’ve discussed WP Engine is a premium web hosting service specifically for WordPress sites. HostGator offers shared, VPS, reseller and dedicated web hosting packages.
Most of HostGators customers would be entry level users and WPEngine’s would be more experienced marketers, agencies, developers etc. The ideal customer base for HostGator and WP Engine are entirely different. HostGator focused on a wide range of hosting and WP Engine solely on WordPress.
WP Engine Review: Pricing
I’ve mentioned price a few times so far in this review, so let’s dive into explaining exactly what they offer and how much it costs.
Startup plan: $30 billed monthly ($300 billed annually), 10GB storage, a limited 50GB monthly bandwidth (a suggested 25,000 visits) and support for hosting a single site.
Growth plan: $115 a month ($95 billed annually), 20GB storage, 200GB bandwidth and support for hosting 10 sites.
Scale plan: $290 a month ($241 billed annually), 30 GB storage, 400GB bandwidth (a suggested 400,000 visits) and support for 30 sites.
For the features, quality of product and service the price is fair. If you don’t need these features right now, then SiteGround, BlueHost or HostGator might work better for you.
